The Freshman | Sounds of Silents at the Coolidge, Brookline

The Freshman

The Coolidge Corner Theatre is proud to welcome back Berklee College of Music Professor Sheldon Mirowitz and the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra for the world premiere of the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra’s (BSFO) new, original score to The Freshman (1925) starring Harold Lloyd. This is the eleventh original Berklee score the Coolidge has commissioned for their Sounds of Silents® program.

About The Freshman

Harold Lloyd’s biggest box-office hit was this silent comedy gem, featuring the befuddled everyman at his eager best as a new college student. Though he dreams of being a big man on campus, the freshman’s careful plans inevitably go hilariously awry, be it on the football field or at the Fall Frolic. But he gets a climactic chance to prove his mettle—and impress the sweet girl he loves—in one of the most famous sports sequences ever filmed. This crowd-pleaser is a gleeful showcase for Lloyd’s slapstick brilliance and incandescent charm.  1hr 16mins

– the Criterion Collection

The Sounds of Silents® is made possible by the generous contributions of Dr. Martin and Becki Norman, Dr. Thomas Gutheil, Susan Stoller, and Elizabeth Driehaus.
