Join us for an evening of art demonstrations by 2 popular local artists, Catherine Zimmerman and Luca Ricco, accompanied by Elan Wong on piano and vocalist Lindsay Tsopelas.  What better way to spend a spring evening!

Catherine Zimmerman will demonstrate her freestyle art – 

“Maybe it is because I began painting when I was sick in bed and couldn’t have visitors that I understand its power.  Painting moves life along.  I like the touch of the brush to rice paper or a thick glob of oil sliding into another color, the defining line of pencil or the flow of watercolor.  I like the way a painting can look like a mess and recover, and the thrilling feeling when one of my paintings on its own has found an audience.  For me, painting is life-sustaining.”

and Luca Ricco will demonstrate his watercolor technique –

“I conceive my paintings as something similar to life: there is a general idea about what we are going to do, but then there are also unexpected factors that can add a particular twist – like each time a color interacts with water, it creates a different effect.  I like to use watercolors as a medium where every brushstroke on the paper becomes part of the final work.  I begin obsessed with certain scenes that I see in my mind.”
