These Chinese ink drawings were inspired by trips to Asia, including China (especially Guilin), Hong Kong, Macau, Borneo, and Malaysia where I found inspiration in the contrasting landscapes. Viewing Chinese and Japanese art and calligraphy provided additional influences. I use traditional Chinese brushes and ink sticks rubbed on Chinese ink stones. I use varying amounts of water to create darker or lighter tones. Occasionally accents are created using less common white ink sticks. Most times I work with the paper on the floor, taking advantage of spontaneous ink flow when I can shift and tilt the paper. Splashes and  drips enhance the pieces. These works, although reminiscent of places, objects, or calligraphy, are abstract. I don’t use titles, because titles are limiting. I prefer viewers to see in each piece what they will. This is the first time that these works have been shown outside of my studio, and I welcome your comments.
