BIG Gallery | Madeline Fine
May 2, 2018 - June 30, 2018
An exhibit of gelatin silver prints, by Madeline Fine, at Brookline Interactive Group’s art gallery on the top floor of the Unified Arts Building at Brookline High.
Madeline Fine (Brookline, MA) designs and creates jewelry and captures moments of light and dark . Her work is inspired by nature and encouraged by the work of Georgia O’Keefe who made people notice what she saw. By applying abstraction Fine incorporates personal memory into the communal. Texture and detail declare her desire to explore subtleties. They glide across he surface, like a skater using the pond, edge to edge. Subtle tonal variations increase the variety of information available and so the curiosity about what story is being told.
The stories are about survival. In the gelatin silver prints, the textures are evidence of the passage of time and the existence of trauma. Could healing be spirituality made visible?
“How the trees rise and stand up-with strong trunks-with branches and leaves! (Surely there is something more in each of the trees-some living Soul.” From Song at Sunset by Whitman, W. Leaves of Grass.
