April 21, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Master Class: Settling the Score - Composing Music for the Silent Classic Varieté

Composer Sheldon Mirowitz (professor of FIlm Scoring at Berklee College of Music, three-time Emmy nominee and Director of the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra) will discuss the process of creating and then presenting live-to-picture a new score for a Silent Feature.

With examples from previous BSFO scores, he will cover the central topics of making music for film, from creating thematic material, determining the language of the score and collaborating with a writing team, to how to synchronize with the film in writing and performance. The presentation will conclude with a sneak preview of the BSFO’s newest score – to the newly restored classic Varieté – which will premier at the Coolidge on May 2nd.
